TAP Welcome Letter

Welcome to the Theatre Arts Preschool program at JWSD.  This letter aims to clarify our expectation of responsibilities to help make our program a success this year.

Timeliness:  Doors are opened at 9:25 a.m.  School hours are 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  With aftercare from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.  Please be on time dropping off and picking up your child, it’s very distracting when they arrive late to class.  Children need the first 30 minutes of free-play to socialize, exercise independence, make choices, and experiment alongside others.

Dress Code:  Girl should wear leggings (or biker shorts) and a close-fitting camisole top.  Boys should wear well-fitted athletic wear – white T-shirt and black athletic shorts/sweats.  Outside shoes (and socks) need to be taken off in the lobby, shoes that are worn outside damage our studio floors.  Please no jewelry, it’s too distracting, it might get broken or lost, and could injure your child or other children.  Small stud earring are the only exception.  Hair must be off the face and secured with a simple elastic band (no buns, headband, scrunchies, or decorative accessories please, as they can hurt their head when tumbling).  Cover-ups must be wore when arriving and leaving the dance studio, something like a simple dress to go over their dance clothes.

Dance Bags:  Please provide a dance bag for your child that is easy to open and close.  They should only have a pair of tap shoes and a pair of ballet shoes in their dance bag.  Please do not allow your child to keep toys, candy, jewelry, or other non-dance items in the dance bag.  Label all shoes with your child’s name to help us ensure that your child’s shoes remain in your child’s possession.

Change of Clothes:  Please leave a complete change of clothes (appropriate to the weather) in a large Ziploc or other plastic bag so that wet or soiled clothing may be returned home easily.  Even if your child is completely potty-trained, accidents do happen.  Please also provide us with pull-ups, diapers, panties etc.  If your child is not fully potty-trained please send them in pull-ups or a diaper.

Water Bottle:  Please provide a bottle of fresh water each day with your child’s first name clearly written on it.  Often children bring a water bottle identical to one that another child has at home, and we want to be sure each child receives the correct water bottle.  If your child has the same first name as another child in the class, please include a last name or initial as well.

Lunch:  Please label their lunchbox with your child’s name. Please no juice boxes (their water bottle is all they will need), no processed fruits in a cup or any other liquid in a cup, no cookies or deserts.  Do send finger foods, sandwiches, fresh fruit, fresh veggies, crackers, cheese sticks, granola, eggs slices, or baked crackers and snacks.

Absences: If your child will be absent for any reason, please call or text and let us know.

We are all looking forward to getting to know you and your children this year.  It is our goal to make our school a fun, safe, stimulating, and creative place for your child!
